学院举办来华留学生“学在中国、追求卓越”系列活动-《电子科学与技术:无尽的前沿》学术专题讲座

2021年5月25日,由国际教育学院主办、信息与通信工程学院承办的来华留学生“学在中国、追求卓越”系列活动,邀请信息与通信工程学院曾辽原副教授带来题为《电子科学与技术:无尽的前沿》的学术专题讲座。曾辽原副教授从多个方面介绍了当下热门的技术应用。

On May 25th, 2021, the “Learning in China, Striving for Excellence” series of activities hosted by the School of International Education and organized by the School of Information and Communication Engineering were successfully held. Associate Professor Liaoyuan Zeng from the School of Information and Communication Engineering was invited to give an academic lecture entitled Endless Frontier of Electronic Science and Technology. Prof. Zeng introduced trending technological applications from many aspects.

 

曾辽原副教授首先简要介绍了这些技术应用的历史背景,它们在过去以及现在是如何使用的。他谈到了这些技术在第二次世界大战期间是如何被用来拯救无数生命的。他补充说,美国之所以能成为第一个登陆火星的国家,是因为他们在技术上取得了进步。

Prof. Zeng firstly gave a brief introduction of the background history of these technological applications and how they were used in the past and how they are being used currently. He spoke about how these technologies were used to save many lives during World War II. The USA managed to be the first people to land on the Mars because of their advancement in technology he added.

其次,曾辽原副教授探讨了在美国政府推动下得以发展的人工智能、信息科学、5G、6G、空间技术、先进技术和能源技术等一系列技术。基于这些技术,开发疫苗以应对当前新冠病毒,虽然据一些美国人传言,新冠肺炎的传播是5G开发的结果,世卫组织澄清了新冠肺炎不是通过无线电或微波方式传播的这一说法。

Secondly, a list of technologies were discussed such as artificial intelligence, information science, 5G, 6G, space technology, advanced, energy technologies, etc. that are promoted by the US government. Based on some of these technologies, vaccines are developed to combat the current COVID-19 even though some people in the USA were propagating that the spread of the COVID-19 is as a result of 5G discovery of which the WHO cleared the air that the spread of COVID-19 is not through the means of radio or microwaves.

曾辽原副教授认为,以上这些技术结合起来可以被称为“无尽的技术前沿”,电子科技大学的所有学生都在学习这些技术的基础知识。谈及无尽的技术前沿,5G是值得探讨的一项意义深远的技术,它是一个比4G更强大的统一平台。5G网络可以帮助我们实现低时延和海量连接的通信。

Prof. Zeng added that all the above technologies are what is combined to be known as the endless frontier of technology and all the students in UESTC are studying the basics of these courses’ technologies. One of the profound technologies to talk about when it comes to endless frontiers of technology is 5G. It is a unified platform that is more capable than 4G. 5G network can help us to communicate with low latency and more connections.

接着,曾辽原副教授提到人工智能、机器学习和深度学习在机器人技术中发挥了重要作用。2015年左右,有一场机器人比赛,那时机器人表现不佳,原因是他们不够聪明,因此力量不够强大,没办法走动。这是由于在机器人停止工作前需要进行复杂的计算,在当时还没有提出深度学习这一概念。目前,来自波士顿的机器人可以跳舞,扔球,玩球等等,这些机器人是我们现在可以看到的机器人领域与人工智能紧密相连的世界顶级版本。

Then Prof. Zeng mentioned that artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning have played a major role in robotics. In 2015 or so, there was a robotic competition where robots perform poorly. Because they were not intelligent enough and hence not powerful and not able to walk. It is due to the complex nature of the calculations needed to be done before the robots can standstill. The reason being that as at that time deep learning was still being proposed. The current robotics from Boston can actually dance, throw balls, play ball etc. They represent a very top label that we can see now in the world in the area of robotics which is closely linked with AI.

 

随后,曾辽原副教授以当前的巴以战争为例,给出了更多相关的案例。以色列人开发了一种能探测到巴勒斯坦导弹的雷达系统,然后以色列人的雷达自动向来袭的攻击者发射一枚导弹,两枚导弹都在空中爆炸,这对拯救成千上万的生命大有帮助。

Subsequently, more examples of technologies were given by Prof. Zeng when he made use of the current war between Israel and Palestine. The Israelites developed a radar system that is able to detect the Palestine missiles and then the Israelite radar automatically lunch a missile towards the incoming attacker and both explode in the air. This goes a long way to save thousands of lives.

讲座现场不时爆发出阵阵掌声与笑声。 参会的留学生们纷纷表示受益匪浅,意犹未尽的同学们还在讲座后进行了讨论交流。本次讲座的成功举办让留学生们对电子科学与技术领域无尽的前沿知识产生了浓厚的兴趣,丰富了留学生的知识,拓宽了留学生的思维。

There are bursts of applause and laughter during the lecture from time to time. The international students who attended the lecture said they benefited a lot, and those panting for more had a discussion and communication with the lecturer after the lecture. The successful hosting of this lecture made the international students generate a strong interest in the endless cutting-edge knowledge in the field of electronic science and technology. This has also enriched their knowledge and broadened their minds.
