报告简介：
Ambient backscatter communication enables low-power devices to transmit information by modulating and reflecting existing radio-frequency signals. In this talk, we consider a radar-enabled form of ambient backscatter communication, where radar illumination scattered by the surrounding environment is reused as an ambient carrier for passive tags. This creates a symbiotic setting: radar signals support low-power communication, while backscatter operation must coexist with radar sensing and radar-induced interference at the reader.
The talk will introduce the signal model, discuss the structure and coherence of the radar-induced carrier, and present signaling strategies that allow tag messages to be decoded without knowledge of the radar waveform or propagation channels. Extensions to multi-tag operation, differential signaling, and dual-purpose RIS architectures will also be discussed.
The talk concludes with open challenges in clutter-aware modeling, mobility, non-cooperative operation, and sensing-preserving data embedding.
主讲人简介：
Luca Venturino (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy, in 2006. He held short-term visiting appointments with the Mobile and Signal Processing Department, NEC Laboratories America, Princeton, NJ, USA, in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and also with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Columbia University, New York, NY, USA, in 2004, 2009, 2022, 2024, and 2025. From 2011 to 2017, he served as an external consultant for the Space and Avionics Division of Leonardo (formerly Selex ES and Selex Galileo), Nerviano, Italy.
Since 2006, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, where he is currently a Full Professor of Telecommunications. His research interests lie in the broad area of signal processing, with a focus on detection, estimation, and resource allocation for wireless communications and radar systems.
He currently serves as a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. Previously, he served as a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters and as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and the IEEE Signal Processing Letters.
