Recently, the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), the flagship multimedia conference of the IEEE, announced the results of the 2024-2025chairmanelection. The election, which began in July of this year, required candidates to be current or recently retired members of the Steering Committee within the last five years. After a four-month-long selection process, involving nominations, candidate statements and defenses, as well as committee voting, Professor CeZHU from SICE, UESTC, the Dean of the Glasgow School, successfully secured the position of the newchairmanof the ICME Steering Committee for a two-year term (2024-2025).
IEEE is the world's largest nonprofit professional technical society. As the flagship conference of IEEE in the field of multimedia, ICME holds a Class B rating in the China Computer Federation. ICME has been held for 24 sessions so far, since its establishment in 2000. It has been jointly organized by four academic organizations under IEEE (Signal Processing Society, Computer Society, Communications Society, and Circuits and Systems Society). ICME is committed to promoting the exchange and dissemination of the latest technologies, systems, and applications in multimedia from a research and development perspective. In recent years, ICME has attracted over 1000 high-quality paper submissions from around the world annually, with an acceptance rate of approximately 30%, and over 500 participants. It has become a major forum for the exchange and dissemination of knowledge in the field of multimedia. The Steering Committee of ICME is responsible for the long-term planning, supervision, evaluation, and improvement of the conference. It makes significant strategic decisions, including the appointment of the ICME conference chairmanand program committee chairman, selection of the conference organizer, timing, location, and theme, as well as coordinating the collaboration of the four societies, and reviewing the conference budget. Thechairmanof the Steering Committee leads the committee in carrying out these responsibilities, convening at least four full committee meetings each year.
It is worth noting that Professor CeZHUis the first scholar from a mainland Chinese institution to be elected as thechairmanof the ICME Steering Committee. ProfessorCe ZHUis a national-level leading talent, an IEEE Fellow, a Fellow of the China Institute of Communications, a Distinguished Lecturer of two IEEE societies, and APSIPA (Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association). He has served as the generalchairmanand program committeechairmanof several international academic conferences and has twice received the Outstanding Leadership Award from internationally renowned conferences, including ICME 2017. Under the leadership and guidance of ProfessorCe ZHU, the Video Communication and Intelligent ComputingTeam has carried out effective work in international exchanges and cooperation. Professor YipengLIUhas been invited multiple times to give tutorial presentations at high-level international conferences (IJCAI 2022, ICME 2022, ICIP 2020, ISCAS 2019, etc.). Professor FanZHANGhas served as the organizer of the MICCAI Computational dMRI Workshop for two consecutive sessions and has been invited to give keynote speeches at the MICCAI Connectomics in NeuroImaging Workshop. ProfessorLeZHANGhas served as the organizer of the AAAI/IJCAI workshop on federated learning and received the Outstanding Leadership Award at IEEE HPCC 2022,etc. ProfessorCe ZHUplaces great emphasis on expanding students' international perspectives, actively encourages students to participate in international conferences, speak proactively, establish international collaborative relationships for students, and promote joint research projects. Schafer, exchanging greetings. Professor Oppenheim is a retired professor from MIT, and Professor Schafer is a retired professor from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Their works "Signals and Systems" and "Discrete-Time Signal Processing" are widely used classical textbooks worldwide.
