格拉斯哥大学Roy Vellaisamy教授做客成电学术讲坛

2020年11月23日,格拉斯哥大学Roy Vellaisamy教授应邀做客成电学术讲坛,为广大师生带来题为“Research to Realization” - From molecular level interaction to real-time monitoring systems的学术讲座,一同做客此次论坛的Qammer Abbasi博士介绍了电子科技大学-格拉斯哥大学双博士合作办学项目情况,本次讲座由格拉斯哥学院赵国栋副教授主持,近500名师生参与此次活动。

Roy Vellaisamy教授对用于仿生神经系统的功能性材料进行了详细的讲解,并介绍了其优势及广泛应用场景。Vellaisamy教授首先介绍了RFID传感器的基本原理及基本构成,详细介绍了传感器如何模拟生物神经系统进行学习遗忘的存储过程,并展示了这种新型传感装置的优点以及各项性能指标结果。Vellaisamy教授讨论了电化学传感器(Electrochemical Sensors)的概念以及该种器件的巨大潜力。他提到世界上现存食品污染、药品安全、化学污染、健康护理等多方面问题,仿生传感器可以为这些问题的解决提供有效方案,并展示了一些实时监控靶向化学成分的使用案例。最后,Vellaisamy教授给出了使用仿生传感器构建未来社会的展望。

报告结束后,参与师生就本次报告的相关问题与Vellaisamy教授进行了深入交流和探讨。

Roy Vellaisamy is a Professor of Intelligent systems at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. Prior to Glasgow, he held faculty positions at City University of Hong Kong for 11 years (2008 to 2019; Assistant & Associate Professor) and The University of Hong Kong (2004 to 2008; Research Assistant Professor). He is also Adjunct Professor at UESTC, Chengdu & SZAR (ShenZhen Academy of Robotics), China. He works on multidisciplinary research blending device physics with materials chemistry and electronic engineering with particular focuses on Intelligent devices and systems for sensing application, wearable thermoelectrics, piezoresistive sensors and neuromorphic memories. He has published over 200 journal articles with Scopus h-index 41 (~7500 citations) and has 21 US/International/Chinese patents. In 2019, he received gold medal for his “Sensor Platform” at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. He is also recipient of TRIL-Research Fellow (2003-04) awarded by The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, UNESCO institution), Trieste, Italy and Excellent Product Award (2011, 12, 13 & 18) at China Hi-Tech Fair awarded by the PRC's Ministry of Commerce.
