六、主讲内容：
近年来，相干检测技术在光通信领域的应用极大地推动了通信行业的发展。随着人工智能、云计算的兴起，全球应用数据量和对通信大容量的需求急剧增长。相干光通信技术可以有效地解决上述所面临的问题。本次讲座将重点介绍光通信技术未来两个主要的发展方向：
1)支持大容量传输的空分复用技术（space-division-multiplexing, SDM）。
2)用于短距通信的自相干检测技术。
本次讲座将围绕上述两个领域以及其未来的应用和发展趋势进行重点讨论。
The recent decade saw a revival of coherent detection in optical communication which drastically reshapes the communication industry. This coincides with the incessantly increasing capacity demand from various bandwidth-rich Internet applications. In this talk, I will focus on the two major trends in optical communications (1) space-division-multiplexing (SDM) for high-capacity transmission, and (2) self-coherent detection for short-reach communications. I will discuss the underlying technologies as well as the future trend and applications as the result of the development in these two fields.
七、主讲人简介：
谢伟教授于1994年和1996年在南加州大学获得电气工程硕士和物理博士学位；曾在美国加利福尼亚州帕萨迪纳的喷气推进实验室、新泽西州霍姆德尔的贝尔实验室等多个知名机构工作；2004～2022年在澳大利亚墨尔本大学电气与电子工程系执教；2022年回国加入西湖大学，担任光通信与传感讲席教授。谢伟教授发表了300多篇期刊和会议论文，并提交了14项美国专利(9项已发布)。
由于谢伟教授在光正交频分复用的突出贡献，他被分别授予IEEE Fellow和OSA Fellow。他还曾获得澳大利亚未来院士基金（Future Fellowship 2011～2014），曾任OFC等国际会议的大会主席。
Prof. William Shieh received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Southern California, Los Angles, in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He had worked in various previous renowned institutions such as Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Pasadena, California, and Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, New Jersey. From 2004 to 2022, he had been with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Melbourne, Australia. In 2022, he joins the Westlake University as Chair Professor in Optical Communication and Sensing. He has published more than 300 journal and conference papers and submitted 14 U.S. patents (nine issued).
He has been awarded Australian Future Fellowship (2011-2014). He is a fellow of both IEEE and Optical Society of America (OSA).
