Abstract:
Half of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Arthur Ashkin for the invention of optical tweezers. Based on its principle of optical gradient force, nanoscale optomechanics has become an important sub-field of photonics. On the other hand, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) has achieved great success in applications, and the nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) is the next miniaturization step from the MEMS. In our researches, we successfully integrated the NEMS and the optomechanical cavities together and demonstrated the relevant optomechanical effects. These devices have potential applications in inertial sensing, such as accelerometer and quantum compass.
In active component aspect, we studied dynamic optomechanical modulation of two-level quantum emitters via the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effect. This is a brand-new field, which combines cavity QED with optomechanics. Our result will inspire experimental ways of studying tripartite interactions between quantum emitters, optical cavity and mechanical oscillator.
