由信息与通信工程学院主办的“信通论坛”本次邀请阿德莱德大学Stephen Warren-Smith博士到校交流,具体安排如下,欢迎感兴趣的师生参加。
一、主 题:Sensing and Imaging with Microstructured Optical Fibres
二、主讲人:Stephen Warren-Smith(博士, 澳大利亚阿德莱德大学)
三、时 间:2019年11月1日(周五)下午15:00
四、地 点:清水河校区科研楼B306A
五、主持人:信息与通信工程学院 龚元 教授
六、内容简介:
The unique optical and material properties of microstructured optical fibres provides new opportunities for sensing and imaging. I will review current applications-orientated projects at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS, University of Adelaide) that are exploiting these unique properties. In particular:
1. High temperature sensing: Pure silica microstructured optical fibres with femtosecond laser ablation fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) offer temperature stability beyond 1000°C. I will present the status of our industry project with SJ Cheesman, where we are developing multipoint sensors for the Nyrstar Port Pirie smelter.
2. Imaging: Microstructured optical fibers offer greater refractive index contrast (glass-air) than can otherwise be achieved with conventional optical fibre. I will present recent progress towards the fabrication of imaging microstructured fibres using extrusion of soft glass through 3D printed dies. Such fibres offer potential for unprecedented resolution for in-vivo white light and spectroscopic imaging.
七、主讲人简介:

Stephen completed his PhD in 2011 at the University of Adelaide, Australia, on the topic of microstructured optical fiber chemical sensing under the supervision of Prof. Tanya Monro. From 2011 to 2014 we worked as an Australian Research Council (ARC) Super Science Fellow at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing at the University of Adelaide, working on optical fiber biosensing for women’s health applications. In 2015 and 2016 he was awarded a European Union Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship to investigate the micro/nano-structuring of optical fibers for sensing at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology, Jena, Germany. Since October 2016 he is with the University of Adelaide as a Ramsay Fellow, leading a team researching novel optical fibres for sensing and imaging. Stephen is also a co-founder of HT Sensing Pty Ltd, commercialising high temperature optical fibre sensors.
