六、内容简介：
The Internet is of vital importance to society and even more so in times of crisis, as currently with COVID-19. The current pandemic has caused both Internet traffic and cybercrime to rise. On the other hand, it has become complicated for network engineers to work on-site and getting (replacement) parts is delayed, leading to reduced network maintenance and reliability in times of increased usage and heightened security risks. The aforementioned concerns add to other concerns that stem from the Internet not being designed for its current use and growth. Network engineers have to (1) grapple dozens of protocols and algorithms, (2) face rapidly expanding networks, and (3) preconfigure for unknown future network usage. Even without a pandemic, it has become increasingly complex for them to oversee the ramifications of their network configuration decisions. As a result, unintentional human error is more often the root cause of telecom incidents in the core network than malicious actions. In this talk I will discuss Internet vulnerabilities that do not stem from cyber attacks and I will sketch the research that is needed to mitigate those.
七、主讲人简介
Fernando A. Kuipers is a full professor and head of the Lab on Internet Science at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). In 2004, he obtained his Ph.D. degree cum laude, the highest possible distinction at TU Delft. His research focus is on network optimization, network resilience, Quality of Service, and Quality of Experience and addresses problems in Software-Defined Networking, Tactile Internet, Internet-of-Things, and critical infrastructures. His work on these subjects include distinguished papers at IEEE INFOCOM 2003, Chinacom 2006, IFIP Networking 2008, IEEE FMN 2008, IEEE ISM 2008, ITC 2009, IEEE JISIC 2014, NetGames 2015, and EuroGP 2017.
Fernando Kuipers is senior member of the IEEE, was a visiting scholar at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (in 2009) and Columbia University in the City of New York (in 2016), is member of the ACM SIGCOMM executive committee, and is Vice-Chair of the IFIP Working Group 6.2 on Network and Internetwork Architectures. He co-founded the Do IoT fieldlab and PowerWeb and is part of the board of the TU Delft Safety & Security institute.
