The Optical Fiber Sensing (OFS) group, founded by Professor RAO Yunjiang (IEEE/OSA/SPIE Fellow) in 2005, is the core team of the Key Laboratory of Optical Fiber Sensing and Communications of Ministry of Education, China. The OFS group has been awarded three titles of honor by UESTC. i.e. Teaching and Education (2018), International Cooperation (2020), and Scientific Research (2023). The OFS group has led 7 key projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and published 3 monographs, 1 textbook, and over 300 SCI papers in renowned international journals, including the first Nature paper for UESTC and the first Science Advances and Nature Communications papers for the Information and Communication Engineering A+ discipline at UESTC, accumulating over 16,000 Web of Science citations. Their research achievements have been selected as annual important advances twice by the Optics Society of America (Optica). They founded the international journal Photonic Sensors and the Asia and Pacific Optical Sensors Conference (APOS). The OFS group holds over 100 authorized invention patents. The uDAS achievement has been successfully transformed and commercialized via founding the first central state-owned joint venture company – Optical Science and Technology Ltd. Co. The OFS group has won one Second Prize for the National Teaching Achievement Award and four First Prizes for province/ministry/society-level science and technology awards.
