The School of Information and Communication Engineering(SICE)was established in January 2018,formed by the faculty and studentsofthe secondary disciplinesof Communication and Information Systemsfromthe former School of Communication and Information Engineering and the secondary disciplinesof Signal and Information Processingfromthe former School of Electronic Engineering.SICE has its origins intheDepartment of Telegraphy (the 1st dept.) andtheDepartment of Radio Science (the 2rd dept.)established in the very early period of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China(UESTC).Currently,SICE houses departments specializing in Electronic Engineering, Communication Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Information Engineering. We havebeen recognized by the Ministry of Education as a “National Model Unit for Party Building Work”. Additionally, ourDepartment of Electronic Engineering has been honored as the inaugural “National Model Party Branch for Party Building Work”,and the Radar Detection and Imaging Team has been selected aspart of“Huang Danian-style Teacher TeamamongNational Universities”.
SICEboastsa robust faculty comprising 295 staff members, including 197 full-time teachers, 56 full-time researchers, and 5 full-time laboratorystaff.Weaccommodate 40 outstanding talents at the national level, including members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and231 individuals holding senior professional titles.
The “Information and Communication Engineering” disciplinewe instruct isa national first-level key disciplineand has beenrated as A+ in the fourth round of nationalfirst-level disciplineevaluation results.Besides, we offer doctoral and master’s degree programs andapost-doctoral mobile station in the first-level discipline of “Information and Communication Engineering”.
We aredeeply committed to serving the national major strategic needsbybuilding a platform for scientific and technological innovation, strengthening foundational research,promoting the transformation of achievements, andfostering a new landscape of open, high-level, and closely-knitscientific and technological innovation and collaboration between enterprises,universities and research institutes. We currentlyhost27 research teams, with 11of themreceiving funding in the tens of millionsof yuan. Theresearch directions span diverse areas, encompassing wireless communication and ubiquitous interconnection, optical fiber sensing and communication, radar and countermeasures,andmultimedia information processing.Since the 13th Five-Year Plan,we havegarnered national recognition with two Second-Class Awards for Technological Invention, five First-Class Awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, and an additional 29 accolades from various provincial and ministerial sources.The average annual research funding exceeds 200 millionyuan. Moreover, we are home to5 provincial and ministerial-level research platforms,including theEngineering Research Center of New Microwave Detection Technology, Ministry of Educationand theKey Laboratory of Optical Fiber Sensing and Communication, Ministry of Education, as well as 2 innovation and intelligence introduction bases for higher education disciplines.
Weoffer5 undergraduatemajorsin Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Information Countermeasure Technology.Among them, four are designated as national first-classmajors, three as nationalcharacteristicmajors, and one as the Ministry of Education’s Excellent Engineer Programmajor.Both Communication Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering have received accreditation from the Ministry of Education for engineering education.We housea National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Communication and Information Systems, three national engineering practice education platforms, one provincial virtual simulation experiment centerandtwo off-campus practice bases designated by the Ministry of Education, andboast13 national-level courses. Wehave alsoachieved over 30 teaching achievementsatnational,provincialandministeriallevels. Witha strong emphasisplacedon thetrainingof high-level,innovative talents, wehaveachieved remarkable results in the cultivation of high-level talents, receivingfour nominations for the100National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations and garnering 11papers, including nominations, in society-recognized excellentdoctoral dissertations.Over 70% of our undergraduatesgo on topostgraduate study, and our students have won numerous awards inbothinternational and domestic academic conferences and scientific and technological competitions.
Weactively engage in international cooperation and exchanges, establishing two innovation and intelligence introduction bases for higher education disciplines, namely “Visual Media Signal and Information Processing” and “Optical Fiber Sensing and Communication”. Every year,wehost or undertake high-level international academic conferenceson two or more occasionstofosterextensive and close academic collaboration and exchange with renowned foreign universities and research institutions,thussignificantly expandingouracademic influence.
