The final defense and selection meeting for the 2025 “UESTC Distinguished Student” concluded successfully at the Qingshuihe Campus on December 24th, 2025.
As the highest honor for students at UESTC, the competition attracted 27 outstanding graduate candidates from various schools across the university to compete on the same stage. After a rigorous review and intense defense process, Madoune Sid Ali, a doctoral student from the School of Information and Communication Engineering (SICE), stood out with his exceptional academic achievements and comprehensive leadership. He was successfully awarded the title of 2025 “UESTC Distinguished Student” (International Student), securing the only honor in this category for the year.
An Academic Pioneer in Network Security
Madoune Sid Ali, a 2022 PhD candidate from Algeria supervised by Prof. JIANG Dingde, specializes in next-generation network security technologies, specifically intrusion-detection systems using machine learning and AI.
During his doctoral studies, Madoune has demonstrated remarkable academic excellence, maintaining a GPA of 3.98/4.00. He has published 11 high-level academic papers, including articles in JCR Q1 and Q2 journals and top-tier journals, with a cumulative Impact Factor of 15.1. His research combines theoretical rigor with significant application value. He has also delivered oral presentations at multiple prestigious IEEE international conferences (such as IEEE ICCC) and was honored with the “Best Presentation Award”.
A Bridge for Cross-Cultural Exchange
Beyond his academic pursuits, Madoune is a dedicated leader committed to building high-end platforms for Sino-foreign exchange. He has served in key leadership roles for consecutive years, including Executive Director of the University-level National Alliance (3 years), International Student Ambassador (3 years), and National Representative of Algeria (4 years).
Madoune has spearheaded over 9 major international activities and organized more than 30 university-level events, participating in over 90 campus activities in total. His efforts have significantly contributed to the integration of international students into the UESTC community.
The “Voice of UESTC” on the Global Stage
Madoune has actively represented UESTC on high-level international platforms. He attended the “China-Arab Universities 10+10 Cooperation Plan” meeting in Beijing as the sole youth scholar representative invited from UESTC. Furthermore, at the China (Sichuan)–Africa Youth Festival, he served as the sole spokesperson for the 14-member delegation, delivering a powerful message that showcased the spirit and strength of UESTC students.
Madoune’s success in winning the “UESTC Distinguished Student” award is a testament to SICE’s commitment to the high-quality cultivation of international graduate students. It highlights the school’s achievements in fostering talents who possess both profound professional knowledge and strong global competence.
