On September 4th, 2026, the School of Information and Communication Engineering (SICE), University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), held the 2026 International Freshmen Orientation Meeting for newly enrolled international students.
The meeting was organized to help new students gain a better understanding of the academic requirements, university regulations, and practical matters related to their study and daily life at SICE.
During the orientation, SICE Coordinator Ms. Lu introduced the academic cultivation requirements for both master’s and doctoral programs. The session covered key topics such as study duration, credit requirements, course selection, academic activities, research proposals, mid-term evaluations, and thesis defense procedures. Students were also reminded of the importance of maintaining regular communication with their supervisors and following the required academic timelines.
For doctoral students, the meeting also highlighted several important milestones, including the comprehensive examination, research proposal, mid-term evaluation, and pre-defense requirements.
In addition to academic matters, the orientation covered important aspects of daily management and campus life. Students received guidance on complying with Chinese laws and university regulations, adapting to local culture, maintaining physical and mental wellbeing, and communicating closely with supervisors, research teams, and the school administration.
Practical reminders concerning medical insurance, scholarship procedures, bank card registration, and other beginning-of-semester arrangements were also provided to help freshmen settle into their new academic environment more smoothly.
The orientation concluded with a Q&A session, giving students an opportunity to clarify questions related to their studies and campus life.
Through the meeting, SICE aimed to ensure that international freshmen begin their studies with a clear understanding of academic expectations and university regulations, while supporting their transition into a new academic and cultural environment.
